INSTITUTES OF POLITICAL AWARENESS IN RAJASTHAN PART-I | RAS EXAM

RAJPUTANA MADHYA BHARAT SABHA

  • People from Rajasthan participated in the Congress session of 1918 which was held in Delhi.
  • This session inspired leaders like Jamanalal Bajaj, Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi, Vijay Singh Pathik, Swami Narsingh Saraswati to establish Rajputana Madhya Pradesh in 1918 in Marwari Library of Delhi.
  • It was established to create a responsible government in princely states and offer membership of Congress to more people.
  • The head office of the institute was located in Kanpur.
  • Second session of the organization was held along with the session of Congress in 1919 in Amritsar.
  • Jamnalal Baja headed the third session of the Sabha which was held in 1920 at Ajmer.

RAJASTHAN SEWA SINGH 

  • Earlier in 1919, The Sangh was established in Wardha of Maharashtra with the collective efforts of Vijay Singh Pathik, Arjunlal Sethi, Jamnalal Bajaj, Kesari Singh Barhath, Haribhai Kinkar and Ramnarayan Chaudhary.
  • This organization guided the Bheel movement in Sirohi and Udaipur and Peasant movement in Bijolia and Begu.
  • Sangh elected Vijay Singh Pathik as the President while Ramnarayan Chaudhary became Minister.
  • A newspaper called Rajasthan Kesari (first newspaper published by Rajasthani people) in Wardha published an article on 22nd October to spread politics in Rajasthan.
  • When Vijay Singh Pathik returned to Rajasthan in 1921, Rajasthan Sewa Sangh was established in Ajmer.
  • This organization played crucial role in initial stage of politics in Rajasthan but it became inactive after sometime.

JAIPUR HITKARINI SABHA 

  • A school was established in 1908 by Arjunlal Sethi. It became a centre of activities of revolutionaries.
  • Later, it inspired creation of Jaipur Hitkarini Sabha with the support of Pandit Hiralal Shashtri.
  • Banchdandra Shastri and Kesarlal Kataria were appointed as president and minister respectively.
  • Arya Samaj also contributed in this regard.

MARWAR SEWA SANGH

  • It was formed in 1920 under the presidentship of Durga Shankar. Prayagraj Bhandari became minister.
  • It was the first political organization established in Jodhpur region.
  • As it was associated with Rajasthan Sewa Singh, leaders like Jainarayan Vyas, Girdharlal Jaisalmeria, Kanmal, Bhanwarlal Saraf also worked here.
  • The objective of the organization was to spread political awareness in among people of Marwar. It united people to raise voice against unjust and arbitrary policies of the British government.
  • They seek help of newspapers which were distributed secretly among people.
  • It became less operating in 1921 and was eventually replaced by Marwar Hitkarini Sabha.

MARWAR HITKARINI SABHA

  • It was new version of Marwar Sewa Sangh which was created by 1921.
  • The major contribution was to oppose the government rule to evacuate female animals from the state in 1923 which ultimately led to withdrawn of such order within one year.
  • Jainarayan Vyas went to Beawar in Ajmer in 1925 and started another branch.
  • As it spread in other parts of the region, it became Rajasthan Sewa Sangh.
  • Maniklal Kothari was appointed as editor of a newspaper called ‘Tarun Rajasthan’ at Beawar Sangh.
  • Two books published under this organization are ‘Papabai ka Raj’ and ‘Marwar Ki Awastha’ in 1929.

MARWAR YOUTH LEAGUE

  • It was formed on 10th May 1931 under the leadership of Jainarayan Vyas at his own residence in Jodhpur.
  • Manmal Jain became minister of the League.
  • The organization spread awareness and importance of civil rights among rural people along with a demand of responsible rule towards them.
  • Before its formation, an informal organization called ‘Bal Bharat Sabha’ was made which was ministered by Chhaganraj Choprasniwala.
  • One of the members, Ganeshilal Ustad left his government job to write poems to bring mass awakening. The compilation of his poems was known as ‘Gareebon ki Aaawaz’.
  • Between 1932-1933, all the organization including Marwar Hitkarini Sabha, Bal Bharat Sabha, and Marwar Youth League were banned.

AMAR SEWA SAMITI

  • The Samiti was established in Chidawa (Khetri) in 1922 by Payrelal Gupta.
  • All the members used to wear clothes that were made of khadi. The design of the dress was similar to that of soldiers.
  • They used to practice blackjack (laathi) and parade.

AZAD MORCHA

  • Baba Harishchandra leaded the team to form Azad Morcha in Azad Chowk in Jaipur in 1942.
  • Other members were Daulat Bhandari, Gulabchand Kasliwal, Vijayedra Jain, Ramkaran Joshi.
  • It made a crucial presence in Bharat Chhodo Andolan.
  • Though it was a non-violent movement, many revolutionary leaders participated in it.
  • It also raised voice against Jagirdars of Shekhawati region.

KHANDLAI ASHRAM 

  • This was formed in 1934 by Manikyalal Verma in Dungarpur for Bheel people.
  • It worked to promoted importance and need of education and all-round development among Bheels and Harijans.
  • It also established a school for Bheel students.
  • They also constructed library, dispensary, school, dance school, tools room, room for ginning cotton, yarn spinning and khadi weaving in the ashram complex.

JEEVAN KUTIR, VANASTHALI 

  • Hiralal Shashtri founded the group on 12th May 1929 at Vanasthali of Niwai in Jaipur.
  • The purpose was to construct a new self-sufficient village society with use of own resources.
  • Shashtri gave four foundation principles – truth, peace, justice and accomplishment of better works.
  • The village was named as ‘Jeevan Kutir’. Its workers were involved in the creative work and never participated in any movement.
  • The members of the organization were Smt. Ratan Shashtri (wife of Hiralal Shashtri), Venkatesh Pareek, Dhirendra Singh, Chandreshekhar Sharma, Harji Ram Sharma.
  • Seth Sitaram Seksaria, Bhagiarath ji Kanodia of Kolkata and people of Jaipur financially supported Jeevan Kutir.
