INTRODUCTION
Geographical Indication tag refers to a tag certified to a product originated in a particular geographical region. The product holds some specific quality, distinctive feature and status because of that origin. Geographical tag is used for natural, agricultural and manufactured industrial or handicraft products.
SIGNIFICANCE
The importance of GI tag or Geographical Indication tag is similar to the intellectual property rights like trademark, patent, copyright etc. It provides protection to holders and manufacturers of the product, which cannot be used by any third party who produces it without standard guidelines and conditions.
It enables only registered and authorised holder to use the popular name of the product.
HISTORY
The term GI is given under the Article 22 (1) of World Trade Organization Agreement which deals with Trade Related Aspects of the Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) Agreement.
As India is a member of WTO, it enacted the GI tag in year 1999 under Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration & Protection) Act. It came into effect later from 15th September, 2003.
The certification is valid up to 10 years only and can be renewed every time.
The first Indian product to get recognition under GI Tag was the famous beverage ‘Darjeeling tea’ in 2004.

Rajasthan has currently 16 products which has been certified as GI. They can be classified under three categories:

- Food/Agriculture -1
- Natural -2
- Sojat Mehndi is the latest entry to the GI list. It has received recognition in 2021.

GI Tag beans almostly found in Rajasthan, due to heavy warm weather in Rajasthan like ,Chana, moong, ker sangari, bitter apple. and Millet …..look into the matter personally so that value increase same eat able items ,due to heavy nutritional value in the beans .who products in Rajasthan.
